New Reading Units for Reading Response
Writing a reading response can be a tough concept for sixth-graders to handle. Even for children who LOVE to read, expressing their connections, thoughts, and opinions on a text can seem daunting - especially when it's expected of them all at once!
These units were made in order to prepare us for the sixth-grade examinations set by the education ministry. They cover the topic of writing a reading response piece-by-piece and helping kids to fully understand what each concept means.
Below are all of the units that have been made thus far.
Mood and Tone
In this unit, kids will learn about the difference between mood and tone in a book and write a paragraph using some included excerpts from novels.
Text-to-Self Connections
Kids will learn to make text-to-self connections, comparing their feelings to those of a character in a simple story (included with YouTube link)
Illustrations in a Text
Illustration can play an important part in how we perceive a story. In this unit, kids will learn how to write about the way in which illustrations affect a story.
Making Inferences
Making inferences and writing about them is an important part of dissecting the meaning of a text. In this unit, students will learn to use text evidence to prove inferences that they have made about short stories (included)
